The UK has grown hemp for thousands of years for food and industrial purposes.

Many names have derived from Celtic and Anglo-Saxon words for Hemp, one that has survived to this day is of our neighboring county, Hampshire.

During the reign of Henry VIII he made it compulsory to grow a quarter acre of hemp for every 60 acres under cultivation. This was to ensure the supply remained steady.

Farmers from Bridport in Dorset grew a lot of hemp in their day. Mainly used for ropes and sails, possibly to power the Kings and Queens fleet.

People began to find many uses for the crop. It became important part of the British economy.

Cannabis prohibition began in the 1800’s which has had a devastating and lasting impacted on the hemp industry.

Since 1993, the Home Office has began granting licenses for the purposes of cultivating and processing cannabis. This has opened the door for companies to explore the many benefits hemp and medical cannabis have to offer.

To date most of the hemp grown in the UK is for the building and construction industry to use as insulation and building-block material. The insulating properties of hemp make it a viable alternative, to some hazardous materials currently used within this industry. this could soon change, the UN is rescheduling cannabis which in turn will open up research into medical cannabis.

Medicinal Cannabis

The British Government legalised medical cannabis in 2018. There is now one British company that has a CBD based medicine available on the NHS.

To conclude, the rest of the world is now starting to recognize Hemp as a medicinal plant once again. New products are being developed on a daily basis. And CBD and hemp food product are leading the way in a booming health food market. Toppled with the added benefits that growing hemp is so environmentally friendly it is said that hemp will once again be at the forefront of a green revolution.

New Year New Approach

The beginning of a new year is like a blank page and often fills people with inspiration and motivation for a fresh start, New year new me…. this year, instead of using that as a motto we’re trying, new year new approach, because no matter what goals or resolutions are being made you don’t need a new you to achieve them.

Lets try changing our mindset.

Old Way of Thinking: I need to join a gym to get fit, lose weight.

Because of lockdown and most gyms now being closed its easy to let this get you down and just do nothing at all

New Approach: Go for a walk or run with the aim to increase your heart rate, who knows you might find a hidden gem nearby and you’ll be saving some money

Old Way of Thinking: I’m going to save loads of money this year.

For many this won’t seem possible

New Approach: I’m going to save little and often when I can. So as not to put pressure on myself, even saving a small amount will add up in the long run, and this way its easier to still achieve our goals.

Old Way of Thinking: I don’t have time for Self Care I’m too busy

If 2020 has taught us anything it is to try and make time for yourself, even if it’s just a tiny window in your day.

New Approach: Sometimes, making time for self-care is as simple as listening to a podcast on a commute or taking a nice relaxing bath, but what ever you decide to do, do it for you.

Wishing you all a Happy New Year

Sopley Festival

Our first event of 2019 was Sopley Festival situated in the grounds of Moorlands College, we had such a great day. The week leading up to the festival I was busy building our new stand and sign, whilst my wife Sarah was working hard developing some tasty hemp seed based treats that went down a storm.

It was great to see some familiar faces and also meet lots of lovely new people who wanted to learn more about the benefits that hemp and CBD Oil have to offer.

From classic cars and steam engine displays to dog shows and beautiful arts and crafts Sopley Festival had it all!

Thank you for having us and we look forward to doing it all again next year!
