About Dorset Hemp

David Hillier – Founder

My name is David Hillier, I created the Dorset Hemp brand in July 2018, and I am passionate about the role CBD oil can play in people’s well-being and our Organic Hemp seed range is a great source of plant based protein.

Established in Dorset’s green, rural countryside, Dorset Hemp’s mission is to help people experience the benefits that hemp can bring. Dorset Hemp’s founder David Hillier discovered cannabidiol (CBD) oil for himself after years of issues from work and personal pressures.

David’s CBD Journey

In 2015 David was working 12-hour shifts as an aircraft manufacturer, while also spending time renovating property. Despite struggling to cope with the workload, David continued on – the bills needed to be paid. After a couple of years things began to take their toll and David collapsed at work. After advice from the doctor, he was prescribed some medication and attended cognitive behavioural therapy sessions.

David returned to his job but continued to struggle, which led him to eventually leave his day job. He began to build a reputation as a self-employed carpenter and immediately felt the benefits of working less hours, allowing him to come off the medication. His new work/life balance was helping him to cope with his issues and things were looking positive until 2017 when David’s mother passed away from cancer. Struggling to deal with the loss, he collapsed again and was hospitalised.

David’s health did eventually improve after making some major lifestyle changes, but it wasn’t until he came across information online about CBD that his life changed forever. Extracted from the cannabis plant, CBD has a growing following as a natural supplement. Cannabidiol – a non-psychoactive compound (or cannabinoid) – is thought to work by interacting with the body’s endocannabinoid system (ECS), which manages a wide range of processes in our bodies. The endocannabinoids produced by the ECS bind to receptors on cells throughout the body – largely in the central nervous systems – and transmit a message to those cells to work to bring the body back into balance.

Our bodies naturally produce compounds that interact with our ECS systems – these are called endocannabinoids. Plant-based cannabinoids such as CBD are called phytocanabinoids, and have the ability to supplement our naturally occurring endocannabinoids when they aren’t meeting our needs.

While the cannabinoid THC which is also found in the cannabis plant can cause the ‘high’ associated with marijuana, CBD can only be extracted from cannabis plants which have 0.2% or less THC content. These low-THC plants are called ‘hemp’. Growing hemp and the production, sale and consumption of CBD oil are legal in the UK.

For David, taking CBD oil daily has been a key part of supporting his health and wellbeing, so much so that he established Dorset Hemp to help others across the South experience its potential. For more information please contact info@dorsethemp.co.uk.

Lots to plan…

Hemp is an amazing plant and I believe it’s can help give us a more sustainable future in agriculture, building, textiles, bioplastic, and more.

I am currently talking with some local farmers to see how we can boost the local economy and create local jobs in an ever-growing market.
